USAP Updated Science Planning Process

Merit Review Phase

The first phase in the science planning process is the Merit Review. There are two annual deadlines to be aware of when proposing Antarctic science.  Proposals requiring Antarctic fieldwork must submit a Concept Outline by January 15 of every year and the full proposal deadline for Antarctic science is June 1 of every year. The proposal must include information related to proposed fieldwork and must account for the logistical planning necessary to support that fieldwork.

After receipt of proposals, NSF conducts the merit review according to the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide.

Proposals that are well-reviewed through the merit review process are collated by the NSF Antarctic Sciences Section completing Phase 1 and passed to the Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics Section to begin Phase 2 Logistics Assessment.
