NSF-funded PolarTREC (Teachers and Researchers Exploring and Collaborating) is currently accepting applications from researchers for teacher-research experiences. Researchers are invited to submit an application to host a PolarTREC teacher during the 2016 (usually Arctic) or 2016-2017 (usually Antarctic) field seasons. Dr. Thomas Wilch has joined the Antarctic Sciences Section (ANT) as Program Director for Antarctic Earth Sciences (AES). Dr. Wilch has worked on a variety of Antarctic research projects, including two that focus on using volcanic records to reconstruct the history of the Antarctic ice sheet and on the multi-national ANDRILL project.

In Memorium: Winifred Reuning In Memorium: Winifred Reuning

Winifred (Winnie) Reuning, who dedicated her professional life to NSF's Division of Polar Programs and was one of the pioneering women to deploy to Antarctica, passed away earlier this week at age 62.
