South Pole Communications Satellites

Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station uses communications satellites for the transfer of South Pole science, operational, and weather data, as well as Internet, telephone, and email services.  The satellite web pages include information about the satellites, their supporting ground-based systems, and South Pole service schedules.

South Pole Service Outage

Intelsat had to make an unexpected decommissioning and disposal of the MARISAT-F2 satellite. The last date of service for South Pole Station was October 28, 2008.
